In the Spring of 2017, the Dept. of Defense’s technology incubator, MD5, approached Berkeley about teaching a series of innovation bootcamps to organizations within the department of defense. The bootcamps provide a highly interactive and project-oriented introduction to design thinking, innovation, and lean startup principles. Organizations often recognize the need to transform themselves given the rapidly changing external competitive and technology environments. Many organizations find this difficult due to the focus on core competencies that provide them with scale and scope advantages. Employees and leadership see the need for innovation but are frustrated by a lack of understanding of how the process works to enable individual innovators to flourish. This experiential seminar provides an overview of the tools, methods, and mindsets required to bring innovation to the organization. It is designed to inspire leaders to take on the bigger challenges of organizational and business model transformation.

To date, I have developed and delivered the curriculum for bootcamps to the following organizations:

• National Guard (June 2017) VA

• NATO ACT (Sept. 2017) VA

• Pacific Fleet (Feb. 2018) San Diego

• Marines (June 2018)  San Diego

• Air University (July 2018) Montgomery AL

• 4th Fighter Wing (Oct 2018) Goldsboro, NC
